This insurance policy is for the bark Fanny and her outfits on a whaling voyage from October 5,1852, and continuing during the voyage for 4 years, the policy expiring on October 5,1856. The vessel was valued at $20,000 and outfits at $34,000. The policy was issued by the Union Mutual Marine Insurance Co.
The Fanny was bought from Nantucket in 1852 and sailed for the Pacific Ocean on October 5 of that year under command of Capt. Daniel B. Nye, Jr. She returned on May 19, 1856, before the expiration of the policy. Swift and Allen were the managing owner or agent of the vessel. The log of this voyage is at the New Bedford Public Library.
