Antique Wooden Bowl Boat Compass

Wooden bowl boat compass by S. Thaxter & Son, 125 State Street, Boston. (1826-early 20th C.) Box 10 in. square x 6 3/8 in. deep, 6 1/4 in. diameter compass. Original dove-tailed box. Grooves in top of box which would have accommodated the missing lid have broken off. Fair condition with a vertical crack in the bowl. Mid 19th C. Wooden bowl compasses are very scarce.
