This antique scrimshaw whalebone busk with heart shaped top is engraved top to bottom with a tower, ship, plant, tree and house, hot air balloon over two trees, star and compass rose.   "New Bedford" and initials "G.J." on the back may be later additions.  There is minor warpage and a 6 inch hairline crack in the lower half, visible on the back, which does not interfere with the artwork on the obverse.  13 1/4 in. long.  Mid 19th C.
