This charming scrimshaw tooth is engraved on the obverse with a fancily attired 3/4 portrait of a young woman with an elaborate hairdo. She holds a handkerchief in her left hand. Her face, eyelids, nose and neck are delineated in pinprick. On the reverse is a rendering of a sperm whale with its spout. 4 1/2 in. tall, 2 3/4 in. wide. It stands on a modern mahogany base. Ca. 1830's-40's.
