14515 The tropical wood frame of this wonderful early scrimshaw mirror is inlaid with whale ivory hearts, diamonds and geometric devices and sections of abalone shell. Narrow panels of mirror (original, with lost silvering) separate the outer frame from an inner frame in which there is a replaced mirror backed by a protective chamfered wood board. There are 2 circular eyelike shell inlays at each outer corner. Ca 1830’s. 17 1/4 in. x 15 in.
