This Japanese wood block triptych by Yoshiiku is titled A Scenic View of the Ships of 5 Major Powers. Depicted are ships of France, Russia, Great Britain, Holland and the United States, after the opening of Japan to merchant trade with these countries. Yoshiiku, Utagawa, (1833-1904). He was the son of a teahouse proprietor and became a student of Kuniyoshi. He is known as a print designer and a newspaper illustrator and well-respected woodblock artist.
