Product Description

14485 This very good Temple type iron, though unmarked, shows signs of use in the whale hunt. Comparisons to known harpoons by Lewis Temple leads us to believe that this harpoon may have been made by him. It bears many of the characteristics of his work and is 38 inches long, a length commensurate with known examples of his irons. It retains an “iron strap” and grafted hitch. A very interesting early toggle iron, which, though we cannot guarantee, was possibly made by the famous inventor and innovator in whale craftsmanship.
Shown in the images attached are a known Temple toggle iron above the one being offered.
