Product Description
Marked "BURBANK CAST STEEL" this cutting-in blubber spade was made by a blacksmith whose mark we have previously never encountered. 20 3/8 in. long, 5 in. max. blade width. Ca. 1860's. Very nice condition.
Josiah C. Burbank worked in New Bedford for Butts and Smith in the 1840's and probably for J and T Durfee in the 1850's. In the 1860's he moved to Charlestown, Ma. where he continued his craft.
