Recovered Items from 1984 Theft
 14539,1 Antique scrimshaw tooth engraved with two well defined portraits. George Washington astride a horse is on the obverse. He is shown lifting his hat as in a salute. The reverse has a 3/4 figure portrait of the Aztec Emperor, Montezuma II. 5 5/8 in. tall, with wonderful patina. SORRY, SOLD |  14539,2 Antique scrimshaw tooth engraved on the obverse with a whaling scene. Two whale ships flying American flags are seen cutting-in. There are no less than 6 whaleboats in the foreground and at the bow of the lead ship, shown in various stages of the hunt– harpooning, setting a waif, etc. A small sail is seen in the distant right. On the reverse a full-rigged ship is heading towards a lighthouse with a smaller vessel in between and a schooner with a man standing near the bow is to the left of the ship. A hole is drilled through the tooth at its base, and there is some blue-green staining on the left side which does not interfere with the imagery. A very small chip is on one side of the tip of the tooth. 6 1/4 in. long, light polychrome with a very good patina. SORRY, SOLD |
 14539,3 Antique scrimshaw tooth engraved on the obverse with a full figure military officer stsnding in front of a tree. A 3/4 starboard side view of a full-rigged ship flying a French flag is on the reverse. An orange stain on the shirt of the soldier. 5 in. SORRY, SOLD |  14539,4 Antique scrimshaw walrus tusk engraved on the obverse with an anchor above 3 vignettes depicting theatrical scenes. On the reverse there is a simple engraving of a helmeted crusader standing with a shield at his right side and a pole with a spear-like top on his left. There is a hole drilled at the tip of the tusk. Polychromed on the obverse, 10 1/4 in. An arched section of the tusk at the base, about 1 3/4 in. high x 2 in. wide has been broken off and reglued.  14539,5 Wonderful pair of walrus tusks fully engraved on all 4 sides with floral decorations at the tips of each.
On the obverse of the first tusk there is a sailor standing next to an American flag. Beneath are a young girl and boy, a girl with a diog, and a woman reaching up to Napoleon who is astride a horse and leaning towards her. The reverse of this tusk shows a cavalier type figure with a dog and five Indians surrounding a woman.
The obverse of the second tusk displays 2 birds feeding chicks in a nest, a boy and girl, a woman with a boy and girl at her sides, and Napoleon the 3d astride a horse. On the reverse there is a caped figure similar to the gentleman on the first tusk, an Indian with a dog, and 3 maidens surrounding a cupid with a lyre. The tusks are in very fine condition with the exception of a broken out arched section about 2 in. x 1 1/2 in. beneath the figure of Napoleon the 3rd. 16 1/2 in. long with very good patina. Several similar pairs of tusks by the same hand are known in other collections. SORRY, SOLD |
